Foreign Language Film Conference: Cultural Correspondences and the Camera
Call For Papers : Interested scholars are invited to submit papers on aspects of film from traditions other than English, for the first-annual Foreign Language Film Conference of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. The conference will take place October 11-13 2007, in the scenic region of southern Illinois.
The FLFC will focus on the idea of _correspondances_. How are cultural transactions portrayed in cinema? How does the camera participate in creating a cultural dialogue? How are national cinemas transformed by their interactions with transnational audiences?
Abstracts are invited in the following categories:
*Correspondences on camera*
Cultural interactions among national cinemas
Migrations, borders, vernaculars
*Correspondences off camera*
Dubbing, synchronization, production
Remakes, adaptations, translations
Genre-crossing
*Correspondences in the classroom*
Film as a pedagogical tool
Film as cultural/historical document for teaching language/literature
Other panel suggestions are also invited; please see website (http://www.siu.edu/~flfc) for details. Selected proceedings will be considered for publication after the conference.
Send abstract of not more than 250 words as an email attachment in Microsoft Word format. Abstract should include presenter's name, contact address and telephone number, and professional affiliation and status. Presentations should be 15-20 minutes long. Deadline for submission of abstracts (papers and panels): 28 February 2007.
