IL/IN East Asian Summer Seminar:
"East Asian Cinema in Transnational Contexts"

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the Indiana University Title
VI National Resource Center Consortium for the Study of East Asia (IL/IN
East Asia Consortium) announces a two-day summer seminar on East Asian
transnational film. All graduate students and advanced undergraduate
students at colleges and universities in the Midwest are welcome to apply.
The seminar will be led by East Asian film specialists David Desser
(Professor and Director of the Unit for Cinema Studies, UIUC), Frances
Gateward (Assistant Professor of Cinema Studies and African American Studies
& Research, UIUC), Gary Xu (Associate Professor of East Asian Languages and
Cultures and Comparative Literature, UIUC), and Greg Waller (Professor and
Chair of Communication and Culture, IU). It will begin with a film
screening on the evening of May 20th, include two full days of lectures and
roundtables, and conclude the afternoon of May 22nd.
The twenty students who are selected to participate will have their lodging
costs fully covered, as well as some meals, and will receive a travel
stipend.
