EALC students have frequently published in EAA. It's a great place to get your feet wet.

New Education About Asia Planned Special Sections: Winter 2009-Winter
2010, Asia in World History; Business, Economics, and Asia; Asian Religions;
Environmental Challenges and Asia

Education About Asia (EAA) is the peer-reviewed teaching journal of the
Association for Asian Studies. Our readers include secondary school
teachers and undergraduate instructors, and our articles are intended to
provide educators, who are often not specialists, with basic
understanding of Asia-related content. Qualified referees evaluate all
feature manuscripts submitted for consideration.

The following four special sections are being developed for 2009 and 2010:

Fall 2009-We are in the process of developing a special section in the fall 2009
issue entitled "Asian Intercultural Contacts: Diasporas and Minorities."
In this special section, it is hoped that articles will be published
where authors develop manuscripts that describe the historical and
contemporary experiences of Asian ethnic and minority groups as they
have encountered new cultures in both Asia and other parts of the world.
Although the primary focus of the special section will be on the
experience of Asians, we also will consider manuscripts where authors
focus upon the experience of non-Asians in Asian cultures. Prospective
authors should be aware that approximately sixty to sixty-five percent
of our readers are secondary or middle school teachers and the rest
teach at the undergraduate level.

Winter 2009-Asia in World History: The Twentieth Century. In this
concluding special section of the series based upon National Standards
for World History, we seek manuscripts that encompass a wide range of
topics including economic, maritime, military, political, and social
history. We also invite authors to submit manuscripts about important
individuals who influenced twentieth century Asian and World History.
The deadline for initial submission of manuscripts is August 10, 2009.

Spring 2010-Business, Economics, and Asia. In this special section, we
invite authors to address economics, economic history, and
business-related topics such as entrepreneurship in Asia, the benefits
and costs of the East Asian economic "miracles," international trade and
Asia, and Asian values and capitalism. The deadline for initial
submission of manuscripts is December 10, 2009.

Fall 2010-Asian Religions. We invite authors to submit manuscripts that
address topics such as the historical and contemporary roles of
religions in Asian cultures, everyday religious practices in Asia,
comparative religions, and teaching about Asian religions in world
history and literature survey courses. May 10, 2010 is the deadline for
initial receipt of manuscripts.

Winter 2010-Environmental Challenges and Asia. We invite authors to
submit manuscripts that address topics such as the potential conflicts
between economic growth and the environment in Asia, the environmental
movement in Asian countries, natural resources and their utilization and
conservation, and environmental problems that affect particular Asian
countries. The deadline for initial submission of manuscripts is August
10, 2010.

We are most interested in manuscripts that are useful for survey-level
courses. Prospective authors are encouraged to share possible manuscript
ideas with me via email before developing a submission. Interested
authors are strongly encouraged to consult the EAA guidelines and
examine sample articles available on the Web site under my signature,
before submitting manuscripts.
