R2P Essay Contest
In September 2005, the international community unanimously endorsed R2P. As adopted, this revolutionary doctrine lays the foundations for a new global moral compact between every State and every population on earth. The ultimate goal of the essay contest is to develop a comprehensive American definition of the norm of the Responsibility to Protect, by both analyzing its sources and identifying its implications for America and the world. The contest is open to enrolled M.S. and Ph.D. students who are residents of Illinois, and the first prizes are $5000. See http://r2pcoalition.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=56 for more information.
WRK4US Listserv - Guest Speaker Discussion
Work for Us, a.k.a. WRK4US, is a national email discussion list about nonacademic careers for humanities PhDs. It is based at Duke University. Several times a year, the list manager organizes special Guest Speaker Discussions to focus on a particular career path.
The next Guest Speaker Discussion will focus on "Careers in Academic Publishing" and will take place on the list October 2 - 6, 2006.
Joining us for this Guest Speaker Discussion will be several humanities PhDs who work full-time in academic publishing. On Monday October 2, they will share their own stories of how they got into that field, then answer your questions for the rest of the week.
If you would like to learn about academic publishing as a potential career, subscribe to the Work For Us discussion list before the discussion begins on Monday October 2. Anyone may subscribe and any subscriber may participate by asking questions. The discussion will eventually be posted on the WRK4US website, but subscriber names will be disguised to protect their confidentiality.
To subscribe and/or learn more about WRK4US, visit http://www.jhfc.duke.edu/fhi/wrk4us/index.php.
