Education About Asia Spring 2008 Call for Manuscripts
Education About Asia (EAA) is the teaching journal for the Association for Asian Studies. Our readers include undergraduate instructors as well as high school and middle school teachers. Our articles are intended to provide educators, who are often not specialists, with basic understanding of Asia-related content. Manuscripts submitted for consideration for publication in EAA are evaluated by qualified referees.
We are in the process of developing a special section in the spring 2008 issue entitled, "Marriage and Family in Asia." In this special section, it is hoped that articles will be published where authors develop manuscripts that will enable teachers and students to both better understand marriage and family practices in Asia, and more intelligently reflect on the role of these institutions in their own societies. We hope this section will be useful for instructors in all the social sciences. The deadline for initial receipt of manuscripts for this special section is December 20, 2007. Prospective authors should consult the EAA guidelines, available on the Web site under my signature, before submitting a manuscript for the Marriage and Family Special Section.
We are also seeking reviews for a non-thematic expanded media section that also will be published in the spring 2008 issue of EAA. This section is sponsored by the Asian Educational Media Service (AEMS). Reviews may address the use of feature films, documentaries, CD-ROMs, podcasts, and Web sites in teaching about Asia, with an emphasis upon classroom use. Tanya Lee, Program Director of AEMS, will be editing this section. Before beginning a review, potential authors should check with both Tanya and me to ensure that we do not already plan to publish an existing review of the same material in EAA or the AEMS newsletter.
Media Special Section reviews should run approximately 500 words (two double-spaced manuscript pages); essays should run about 1,000 words (four double-spaced manuscript pages). Prospective authors are encouraged to read our guidelines that are available at the Web site in my signature below. Interested potential contributors are welcome to email me about possible
manuscript topics.
Cordially,
Lucien Ellington
